Ever wanted to meet police officers and firefighters and see how they do their jobs? Come to Countryside Mall and do just that during National Night Out. It's an annual event designed to foster better relationships between first responders and the community. The Clearwater Police Department will bring representatives of many of its specialty units, including SWAT, K-9, Emergency Response Team, Traffic Enforcement Team and others. Clearwater Fire & Rescue, meanwhile, will bring multiple pieces of firefighting equipment and their personnel. Bayflite is also scheduled to drop in. It's a great time that is fun for all ages, but especially for children. Kids can get free fire helmets, sit in a patrol car and do other fun things. "This is one of our favorite events of the year," said Police Maj. Nate Burnside of the patrol division. "It allows our residents to meet the first responders who are there for them every day, and to get a peek inside the police and fire departments." The event will be held in the mall parking lot just south of Whole Foods, nearest the intersection of U.S. 19 and Countryside Boulevard.
